What the series needs is not a high-priced list of stars. It needs an ensemble cast of unknowns. Perhaps one or two b-list stars with enought gravitas and presence to pull off all the high-jinks with a believabled face.

Martin Landau and Barbara Bain were not unknowns, they were both in Mission: Impossible and Martin had been in several highly noted films (North by Northwest, Cleopatra, etc). Barry Morse was also quite well known in the US as Lt. Gerard from the Fugitive.
Of my two choices, Mira is probably the high-priced star, but again this is a wish type list. Christien is known but not REAL well known in his own right. But Christien has a tie with the original series, he is Tony Anholt's son - Tony from the second series.

02-13-2012 04:19 PMI watched this show religiously when I was younger and have the entire DVD set, I love this show. At 45 I am very excited to see it revised and hopefully will be a success as we REALLY need more Sci-Fi on TV and at the movies. I haven't read all the posts but here are my ideas for casting:

Joseph:
Yes, I know that the Landaus were well-known. They were big stars with big demands. Their contracts stipulated how they were to be lit, what side of his face Martin was to be shot, what percentage of screen time they would have with regard to the other characters.
It was a good deal for them (Barbara allegedly said, "Mission made me famous. Space made me rich.") but not so much for the fans. Sylvia Anderson resisted hiring them; she wanted an ensemble cast.
I think that's the right way to go today. No big stars, just good actors.

What will the average lifespan be in 80 years? I think that it would be plausible to bump up the average age of the cast to the 50s, frankly. Maybe have a large number of expendable interns in their 20s, all desperate to get an actual paid job at any cost (because all the good jobs are taken by septuagenarians who show no sign of dying off due to better medical technology).
In short, recast Landau and Bain, including the famous 'ROTATE THE ACTRESS' opening titles!

Oh, god, rotating the actress. Yikes.
That's been parodied (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXWEh9kcGzM) and is SO iconic, that I think it needs to stay in the '70's.

One note on a character: if you have Verdeschi don't have Morrow; if you have Morrow don't have Verdeschi. Same character different name and actor.

Please have an Australian play Alan Carter. We Australians are very loyal sci-fi fans and very rarely represented in science fiction... Alan Carter is AUSTRALIAN please keep him as such!
