Video monitors only work if you have power...If you temporally lose all power, you're blind. Windows would come in handy with the already mentioned safety shutters or closeable shields.

I agree with Coach34, there has to be some level of a recognition factor (in ships, moon base, characters, etc...) or viewers will be saying, "What the heck is this?" If nothing is familiar in the series, I doubt it will retain it's "original Space:1999 fan" audience.

03-25-2012 02:44 PMOne thing I really missed in Year 2 of the show was the cool Sorella desk lamps used in Year 1 of the series. I don't think these would be appropriate for a remake at this late date, but maybe a more futuristic design which is "kind of" similar would foot the bill.

I'm new to this site and haven't been able to navigate too deeply into the various details so I'll keep my suggestions broad and simple.
There has to be the need to have a group of humans thrust into a situation that they were not prepared for, and how they cope with adjusting to their new life in space. Part of that adjustment should be influenced by the adventures they have and the different civilizations they meet along the way.
Please keep some recognizable aspect of the Eagle, truly one of the great SciFi ships of all times, and keep the clean and bright future aspect of moonbase Alpha as it was in Season 1 (no one wants to spend time in a greasy/dirty future - we have plenty of that just outside of our windows).
The future should be exciting and better than what we have now, or why else should we spend any time there?
I guess the one thing that I wouldn't miss, would be the flaired pants on the uniforms. Take some of that extra material and use it to fashion some type of collar treatment for the crew.

05-11-2012 07:19 PMOr, as mentioned in other parts of this thread, an alien device. Perhaps not found until well after the establishment of Alpha...my take is that it would be discovered in the midst of and well after the two Waste areas were constructed and being filled with the nuclear byproducts of our civilization.
The "magnetic storm" that blew the Moon out of orbit in the original series could be presented in such a way that it's EMP effects triggered this device, and the moon simply teleported/wormholed it's way to the exact opposite side of the galaxy.
If the Moon kept it's "Earth-side-of-the-galaxy" velocity and movement vectors, it would end up traveling against the rotation of the galaxy on the other side, and mind you this would give the Moon a hell of a velocity relative to the oncoming star systems. Would make the whole "wormhole" thing a one-shot deal (therefore removing the troublesome plot device), keeps the Moon in the original's "runaway" status, and could feasably make visiting different systems every couple of episodes a lot easier. Though how to get the Eagles down to a velocity slow enough to visit these systems is an exercise unto itself.
Or, perhaps the Asimov/Meta Probe is Mankind's first attempt at a hyper/wormhole drive. The moment comes to activate it...I can see it now.
"Houston, Alpha, all systems ready, 10 seconds...5, 4, 3, 2, 1, initiate."
<cue big sound and visual fx>
"Houston, Alpha, report no jump. We're still here"
"Houston acknowledges. Alpha, do you copy?"
"Alpha? Come in Alpha." Static....
<background chatter over radio> "Uh, sir? I see Earth, but where's the moon?" "What the hell?"
"Houston, Azimov reports the moon is missing!"

05-16-2012 08:29 AMIt's a tricky one. We have gone past 1999 and last time I looked the moon was still there. Thus I suppose it will have to be a re imagining to appeal to a new audience. But you really don't want to alienate those that recall the original. I read somebody with an idea that the moon could be the victim of a LHC accident ripping open a wormhole and the moon going through that. That seems quite a good idea, thus a re-boot rather than a new concept is possible. Perhaps edgier like the revamped BSG which, in series one was a real nailbiter. Leave the Eagle alone. It has stood the test of time. Maybe very minor alterations but the design should remain as-is. Unless anybody has the drawings of Brian Johnsons design for series three!!! As for moonbase alpha, it has to be clean, clinical, functional. Everything could be more compact of course. I don't feel these days that the computer would fill the entire wall of Main Mission!!! The whole thing should retain the spirit of the original series, with an edgier feel. Lets face it if you had asked Picasso to paint his take on the Mona Lisa the result would be less than pleasing.

05-29-2012 10:34 AMOk my 2 cents worth
I am hoping the story will be where the earth has come together( as in the original series ). After almost going to war over resources all the countrys have gotten together and setup Moonbase Alpha for the Helium 3mines.
Yes I want to see the eagles changed abit but leave the Head of the eagle with the same basic design. Yes more special affects please.
