Well, fanbase lack of input nothwithstanding, I would have a gravitronic based shield around the moon which density coulb warp space and permit lunar trip. Somone interferes/sabotages sheild and instead of passive protection field, it warps space to create motion in FTL with moving within the field. This is the Alcubierre warp drive proposed several years ago. It allows FTL by going around Eienstien limits by moving spacetime around the ship/moon so that spacetime is FTL but the moon in the field center isn't moving at all.

Maybe Jace is thinking REALLY outside of the box and he plans to blow up the Earth. This creates a "stir" in the neighborhood and alien races come to visit to see the wreakage, thus giving us an Alien of the Week storyline ala Star Trek-DS9.
The series tagline could be "Destroy the Earth, and they will come!"

Hi guys,
I am a Traveller RPG GM/Player, and in my new campaign I set my time line as 2199. I state the the Earth is united under the United Earth UE and the United Earth Force UEF runs the Space service. Now the Colony Alpha on the moon is much larger than the Space 1999 store line. Now I had them working on a Proto Type Shielding project that would enwrap the whole moon in a force field shield. The shied was to protect the Moon from ornital bombardment by asteroids. Unknown to the scientist what they perfected was actually a Hyper Space Faze that would shift the whole moon into Hyperspace. Now that was not so bad BUT in my campaign plot the Nuclear storage on the dark side did explode durring the testing of the shield and thus started the moon moving in hyperspace. To the folks at Earth the moon simply fazed and dissapeared and wa gone. To those on the moon, they fazed and saw a wierd power envalope case the moon to become charged and then started moving. Once they shut down the shield, they found themselves back in real space and moving, but NOT in our system. They had traveled a great distance as well too. In hyperspace they would be attacked to Suns in their path. Now to stop from being drawn into any sun, they simply turn on the shield again and travel through Hyperspace. Thus they can travel the great distances and mostly show up in new systems inwhich they can partially explore.SciFi fan, 36+ RPGer (AD&D v2.5 & v3.5, Traveller, Hero Systems R5, D100 Basic Roleplaying) Resin Space Minis Table top War Gamer.

What about this, a mining opperation discovered a mostly underground HUGE complex on the dark side of the moon. The complex is huge is a power station of sorts like that in Forbidden Planet and the complex was powered down or off. Somehow the scientist, managed to power up the facility and come to find out that in their playing/tinkering managed to set in motion a drive system that when it fully powers up and charged it then "Jumps the Moon" to a new location. Thus it was discovered that the Earths moon was NOT orginally formed at Earth and this planet space ship seems to be on some yet unknown patter of Jumps and the Humans on Moonbase Alpha are along for the ride. Maybe they have been able to discover how long it takes the "system" to repower up so they know when to be back on the Moon before it jumps. Also in a way it is like SGU, but when Aliens see the moon appear they will not always be able to determine how it happened. One would think that the humans on the moon must possess some powerful technologies to jump a moon...well that is what folks will percieve anyway.

09-27-2012 02:39 AMIn Season 1 of the original (I try to forget about Season 2 as it got too silly though at the time I saw it it seemed cool - then I was just a kid!) the season ended with the Alphans discovering that humanity came from somewhere else (over 25 years before the new Battlestar Galactica used that idea). Perhaps our Moon came from somewhere else via a wormhole network set up to save the remnants of their species - some of whom became us. At the edges of numerous solar system are gateway wormhole that speed spacecraft or even entire Moons between solar systems. Beneath the Moon, during expansion of Moonbase Alpha a mysterious complex is discoverd that can move the moon towards the nearest wormhole at the edge of our solar system (some type of gravity drive that would envelop the Moon in something like a warp field from Star Trek) and they accidentally trigger a 24 hour countdown to take the Moon to the nearest next solar system (eons ago the original founders of humanity on Earth decided to end their journey and stay here - but of course modern human had to go messing around with "alien" technology). Eventually ending at the home planet where we all came from. Odds are they will do something totally different - assuming a new series is actually made.
As for the idea of showing what happens on Earth - if the Moon leaves earth and there are parts of epsidoes showing what goes on after the Moon left orbit with most of the action taking place on the Moon, it would be ok. Sort of the way BSG often had multiple points of view - The Fleet being the central focus and alternate view from the Cylon ships and back on Caprica.
Season 1 was by far the best and episodes I would want to see redone most are War Games, Dragons Domain and Mission of the Darians (this time being a ship belonging to our ancestors containing clues to our origins). One thing they should do is add a shipyard and perhaps 1 or 2 smaller bases around the Moon - Beta and Delta or something. Id also add a shipyard to build new spacecraft. They should have Hawks for defense along with ground based defenses and maybe a few orbital defense platforms that some along for the ride.
After 35 years I would never have guessed a new version of this show would even be talked about and conventions still being held for a show that lasted only 2 seasons. Then again BSG did it and though initially I wasnt crazy about the new version - it kind of grew on me like some kind of mysterious alien fungus. So maybe its not so far fetched 1999/2099 could do the same.
